Ornamental Grasses for your Yard
Wednesday, 10:00AM-12:30PM
The unique colors, textures, form, and movement of ornamental grasses complete the fall garden. Join us on a deep dive into possibly the most important plant family in the world, and learn everything you ever wanted to know about grasses and probably a little more. After a short presentation and exploration of fruit, flowers, florets, and inflorescences, Eddy Dawson will lead you on a tour of Red Butte Garden’s vast grass collection.
Get to know your instructor:
Eddy Dawson’s passion is to show people that everyone loves plants, not everyone knows it yet. He believes that plants are a fundamental part of our lives, and his life’s work has been dedicated to making that connection for others.
After a 24-year career, Eddy recently retired from Red Butte Garden, where he served in a variety of roles, including Curator of Plant Records, Director of Information Technology, and Director of Programs. In addition to his extensive tenure there, his career spans over three decades in the plant science and horticulture industries.
Eddy is a lifelong learner, always seeking new ways to connect people with the natural world. While pursuing his degrees in Horticulture and Botanical Informatics at Texas A&M University, Eddy served as a research and teaching assistant, where he had the opportunity to teach students about grass morphology and taxonomy, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for an often overlooked but vital part of the plant kingdom.
