SATURDAY, August 24 from 9AM-4PM

The word Mandala literally means circle and has its origin in the Sanskrit language. It is often linked with our planet and environment. In this class, artists will be supplied with a portfolio containing medicinal plant line drawings and color photos with their history and usage by indigenous tribes. The artist will select and cut out the plant parts of their choosing and will repeat them around a provided circular template and will transfer them to drawing paper for rendering in colored pencils. Demos provided.


MATERIALS LIST:

Materials for artist to bring to class:


  1. Colored pencils, at least a 24 count collection of “Prismacolors” or brand of your choice, a set of 12-24 “Prismacolor Verithin” pencils. Harder than regular Prismacolors they are excellent for detail work.
  2. A pad of 9x12 tracing paper either “Canson” from (Hobby Lobby) or “Daler Rowney” from (Walmart)
  3. 3 Graphite pencils, HB, 2H, 4H brand of your choice and a “Col-Erase” Blue pencil #20044 and a pencil sharpener
  4. A Pentel “CLIC” white pen-like eraser (Office Max Office Depot) and a grey “kneaded” eraser” (Blick Sugarhouse, Hobby Lobby Michaels)
  5. A roll of Removable tape labeled “Removable” or “Wall-Safe” tape and a roll of white “Artists’ Tape” ½” preferred (Blick Sugarhouse, Hobby Lobby Michaels)
  6. A felt tipped “Prismacolor” pen, metallic silver or metallic gold or both (Hobby Lobby) maybe (Blick Sugarhouse)
  7. “Micron” felt tipped pens 005 and 01 (Blick Sugarhouse, Hobby Lobby Michaels)

Items Provided to artists:


  • A portfolio of medicinal plant line drawings, color photos and histories and use by indigenous tribes
  • “Strathmore” toned grey and toned tan 9x12 drawing papers
  • A foam board easel
  • A circle mandala template
