Lil Buds FAQ

Click the panels below for answers to common questions about our Lil' Buds program. If you have any additional questions, please email heidi.anderson@redbutte.utah.edu

Caregiver Accompaniment

One caregiver MUST accompany your Lil’ Bud to class. We encourage parents and guardians to attend whenever possible, but alternate caregivers (16 and older) are also welcome.

Caregiver Participation

Caregivers are encouraged to explore alongside their Lil’ Bud. Often caregivers will re-discover concepts about nature with their child, which helps encourage questions and observations. Sometimes children have concerns that need to be addressed individually. We ask that if your Lil’ Bud becomes disruptive to others to please step outside or away from the group. When they’re ready to continue their learning journey, please return to the group.

Here are some other ways we invite you to interact with your Lil’ Bud:

  • Sit in Circle Time with him or her.
  • During nature walks, actively participate in making discoveries together.
  • Ask questions about what you see.
  • Make predictions together.
  • Assist with art projects (as needed).

Clothing

Please dress according to the weather. We will walk in the Garden during every class (except in the case of extremely bad weather). A hat, sunscreen, and water bottle are strongly encouraged. Paint smocks will be provided for messy projects, but please remember that we will work with paint, glue, and other potentially messy materials.

First Timers

All children adapt to social settings at their own pace. During his or her first experience in a classroom-style setting your Lil’ Bud may experience some anxiety. Usually this goes away quickly, but is entirely dependent on your individual child. Please address specific concerns with the instructor.

Food Allergies

Please email karen.migacz@redbutte.utah.edu with your child’s name and an allergy list.

Program Goals

Each Lil’ Buds class is designed to connect your child to plants and nature while learning simple, basic concepts to help prepare him or her for the upcoming school year. Our projects offer an opportunity to build creativity, communication, and construction skills. The instructors also hope to foster a safe and comfortable environment that will help each child feel more comfortable in new social settings.

Strollers

While we encourage our Lil’ Buds to walk, if you feel more comfortable using a stroller during our Garden Explorations, you are welcome to bring one to class.

Siblings

Lil’ Buds classes are a great time to have one-one-one time with your child, so please find alternative care for siblings. Please discuss concerns or special situations by calling (801) 581-8454.

Weather

Lil’ Buds classes run rain or shine. If the weather conditions are unsafe, we will modify our class plan and stay inside. Please note: We will still go outside in the case of light rain and on hot days, so please dress according to the weather.
