What does it take to be a great gardener? Learn the tricks of the trade as you study plants, garden design, pest management, and more. Then explore the Red Butte Garden's greenhouses and meet professional horticulturists, all while learning tips and tricks to help grow incredible plants. End the week by planting a container garden to take home.

Myths & Legends

Partner Camp with Tanner Dance

Partner Camp with Tanner Dance

From Bigfoot to Zeus, explore myths and legends from around the world with Tanner Dance and Red Butte Garden. Spend mornings at the Garden discovering the plants and animals featured in popular mythology. Spend afternoons at Tanner Dance learning about myths and legends through dance, drama, and other art forms. End the week with a special performance at Tanner Dance showcasing all you’ve learned. Transportation between sites provided.

Drop off at Red Butte Garden by 9AM and pick up at Tanner Dance by 4PM.

Partner Camp with Clark Planetarium

Spend your mornings at Red Butte discovering how you can help improve the environment through recycling, composting, and water conservation, as you explore the Garden, create a reusable lunch bag, build your own countertop compost bin, and more. Transportation between sites provided. At Clark Planetarium, campers will learn about our planet from the perspective of outer space, the technology used to study the entire planet, and how rare a truly habitable planet is. Transportation between sites provided.

Drop off at Red Butte Garden by 9AM and pick up at Clark Planetarium by 4PM.

Explore the plant kingdom and discover the unique uses of several common (and not-so-common!) plants this week at camp. From healing to textiles, you’ll investigate how people use plants around the world. Then you’ll create your own botanical projects like organic lip balm, insect repellant, beeswax candles, and more.

Nature Photography

This is a four-day camp

Calling all amateur photographers! Learn the basics of digital photography this week at camp as you explore the natural world through the lens of a camera. From how to hold your cameras to the elements of composition and framing snapshots, you’ll work each day to hone our photography skills shooting pictures around the Garden. End the week with a gallery stroll to showcase your favorite photos taken during camp.

Caregivers: Please send a simple digital camera with your camper to use each day.

Roots of the Past

This is a four-day camp

Do you know the important role plants played in Utah’s history? Come dive into the past and discover the plants used by both the native inhabitants of Utah and the early settlers. Learn which plants were used for food, medicine, shelter, and more as you explore the Garden and use native plants to complete cool science experiments and art projects. You won’t believe the plethora of botanical treasures hidden in your own backyard!

Get ready for an adventure! Spend your mornings at Red Butte learning to survive in the wild as you explore the basics of navigation, make a collection of safe and useful plants, discover how to make a shelter, and other valuable survival skills. In the afternoon at Clark Planetarium you will learn about the extreme environments found in outer space and what astronauts have to do in order to survive. Campers will also learn night sky navigation techniques in the planetarium dome. Transportation between sites provided.

Did you know humans aren't the only architects on the planet? Spend your mornings working with Red Butte Garden to learn about the amazing things animals build in nature like bird nests, anthills, beehives, and more. In the afternoon, work with the experts at Play-Well TEKnologies to practice what you've learned by building cool nature-inspired projects with LEGO® bricks and LEGO EV3 computer programming.

Calling all chefs! Get ready to explore the Garden with your taste buds as you practice essential kitchen skills like chopping, mixing, blending, and more. In addition to making daily snacks like corn salsa, cheddar cheese popcorn, pineapple jam, and hummus, you’ll also harvest fresh ingredients from the Garden and compile a camp cookbook.

Garden Magicians

From plants that don’t like to be tickled and seed pods that explode to plant parasites that smell their prey, nature is full of magic! Discover the magic hidden in the natural world all while learning simple magic tricks sure to amaze your friends and family! Invite them to watch you show off your new skills in a magic showcase performed by you and your fellow campers on the last day of camp.

Calling all game coders! Build S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) skills as you learn about nature with Red Butte Garden! Using software developed by MIT, you’ll design, create, and code original handheld games about the natural world. At the end of the week you’ll learn how to download your game onto a handheld mobile device for your friends and family to play and enjoy. Don’t miss out on this chance to engage with the Garden in a new and innovative way!

Partner Camp with Kidding Around Yoga with Sarah Bly

Ohm… could you please pass the salt? Learn to master your cooking AND yoga skills all in one camp! We will be taught classes from Kidding Around Yoga with Sarah Bly. Sarah is a certified kids yoga teacher and will be doing all kinds of breathing techniques, yoga poses, games and more. Then, master the art of healthy cooking as you chop, blend, and mix your way across the Garden, all while making healthy, tasty treats to enjoy.
