The Scent of Spring

The garden is full of the wonderful smells of spring! From the sweet, fresh aroma of our lovely lilacs to the subtle scent of the crab apples, a walk through Red Butte Garden is a special treat this time of year.

Adams Crabapple    Malus 'Adams'    is in full bloom.

Selkirk Crabapple    Malus 'Selkirk'    is coated with light pink flowers.

Sugar Tyme Crabapple    Malus 'Sutyzam'    has a delicate sweet scent.

Beauty of Moscow Lilac    Syringa vulgaris 'Krasavitsa Moskovy'

is covered with buds that are just beginning to bloom.

Dappled Dawn Lilac    Syringa vulgaris 'Dappled Dawn'

delights with interesting variegated leaves and aromatic blooms.

Volcan Lilac    Syringa vulgaris 'Volcan'

has striking deep burgundy buds, and is currently the lilac most fully in bloom.

Arrowleaf Balsamroot    Balsamorhiza sagittata    enjoys the sun in the Natural Area.

The weather forecast for this Mother's Day week looks to be as delightful as the dazzling display of sights and smells available throughout the garden. Whether you choose a walk through the more formal gardens or a hike through the Natural Area, this is a wonderful time to welcome spring with a trip to Red Butte Garden!
