Age Limits
Campers should be registered for the grade they will enter in September 2016.
Please note the age groupings below:
  • Kindergarten
    o Must be entering kindergarten in September 2016
    o Most campers ages 5-6
  • 1st/2nd Grade
    o Must be entering 1st or 2nd grade in September 2016
    o Most campers ages 6-8
  • 3rd/4th Grade
    o Must be entering 3rd or 4th grade in September 2016
    o Most campers ages 8-10
  • 5th/6th Grade
    o Must be entering 5th or 6th grade in September 2016
    o Most campers ages 10-12

Campers who are too old or too young for the camp they are registered for will not be allowed to attend camp and their registration will be dropped. We regret that we cannot make any exceptions to this policy. Campers in Kindergarten camps and above must be toilet trained.

Caregiver Information
Caregivers are not allowed to remain with their camper during camp. If you feel your child is unable to be in camp without you, it may be best to wait a year before you send your camper to Summer Camp.

A weekly Camp Overview can be found online for each camp. Each overview will list the day’s themes and include suggestions to help you and your camper share the camp experience and continue learning at home. The order of events may change due to weather or other circumstances beyond our control.

Camper Code of Conduct
At the time of registration you will be asked to review Red Butte Garden’s Camper Code of Conduct agreement with your camper.

• Campers will follow directions, obey camp rules, and stay with their group.
• Campers will treat fellow campers, instructors, volunteers, and the Garden with respect.

Please read and discuss these expectations with your camper. In the event that a camper does not follow the Code of Conduct, or his or her behavior endangers other campers or interferes with an instructor’s ability to provide quality programming, the instructor will inform the caregiver at pick-up or through a phone call. If a second incident occurs, caregivers may be asked to withdraw their camper from camp. Refunds will not be given for behavior-related withdrawals.

Red Butte Garden takes the physical and emotional well-being of its campers very seriously, and strives to create a positive, warm, and supportive atmosphere in all of its programs. Our camps are strict No Bullying Zones and place a strong emphasis on developing healthy relationships with people, plants, and the natural world. If bullying occurs, instigators may be asked to withdraw from camp. No refunds will be given for bullying-related withdrawals.

Camp Communication
Summer Camp runs rain or shine. In the event of a Garden closing, you will receive an email indicating Red Butte Garden is closed. If you need to contact Red Butte Garden for any reason, please call (801) 581-8454 for immediate assistance.
Camp T-Shirts
T-shirts are available for purchase ($10) Mondays at Summer Camp Check-in.
Camper Illness/Injury
Should your camper become ill or injured while attending Summer Camp you and/or an emergency contact will be notified by phone immediately. Members of our staff are CPR/first aid/defibrillator trained and will respond to all emergencies as needed.
Childcare Tax Credit

Your camper will spend most of his/her time at camp exploring the Garden. Please prepare your camper for the weather by sending them with sunscreen, a hat with a brim, and appropriate clothing. Close-toed shoes are strongly encouraged.
Garden Member Discounts
Garden Members receive special discounts on Summer Camp Tuition. In order to receive discounts, members must create an account on the Red Butte Garden website. To register for the site

Paperwork (medical information, emergency contacts, carpool information, liability waivers, etc.) is required for each camp and must be submitted at the time of registration. For tips and tricks to expedite Summer Camp Paperwork
Pick-Up / Drop-off
Details about camper drop-off and pick-up will be communicated via email the week before the start date of the individual camps.* Camp groups will leave the Courtyard promptly at 9AM for morning camps and 1PM for afternoon camps. If a camper misses the departure of his/her camp group, it is the responsibility of the caregiver who brings the camper to check in to then escort the camper to his/her group. If your child will be absent, please let us know by calling (801) 581-8454. If you must pick up your camper early from camp, you must contact us by phone or send a note to camp with your child so that we can make special arrangements for his/her early pick-up ahead of time.

*Camp K, Clark Planetarium, Discovery Gateway, Natural History Museum of Utah, Tanner Dance, and Wasatch Community Gardens partner camps all have different drop-off and pick-up locations and times. Transportation between sites is provided. See camp descriptions for details.

Registration Deadline
Registration is open until camps fill or one week prior to the start date of the individual camps. No day of registration is allowed. Registration is limited to online only at this time. For detailed registration steps CLICK HERE.
We provide a light snack for our campers. If your camper has food allergies or diet restrictions that may prevent him/her from consuming nut-free snacks, please specify on the Medical Information section of the camp paperwork (completed during the registration process).
Special Attention
Please let us know if your child has physical, emotional, educational, or medical special needs on the Medical Information section of the camp paperwork (completed during the registration process). Advise us on any severe allergies or chronic illness. This includes information regarding food and airborne allergies. If your camper will require special accommodations please call (801) 581-8454 to discuss your situation prior to registering.
In order to provide the best experience for your camper, our Kindergarten camps are limited to 12 campers, and our 1st-6th Grade camps are limited to 16 campers. Camps are led by qualified Red Butte Garden employees, with assistance from interns and volunteers.
Many of our camps fill early! When cancellations occur in full camps, vacancies are filled from the waiting lists in the order of receipt. To be placed on the waitlist, please call (801) 581-8454 or send an email to with your name, phone number, and the camp waitlist you’d like to be added to. You will be contacted via email and/or telephone to inquire if you remain interested in accepting the available spot(s). You will have one business day to respond and complete registration before the available spot is offered to the next person on the waiting list.
What Not to Bring
The Garden is NOT responsible for any item lost or broken during camp. Please leave the following items at home: personal video game players, MP3/iPods, iPads, and other tablet devices.
