JOHN BUTLER TRIO
Genre: Roots, Rock, Soul
John Butler Trio, an eclectic roots band from Australia, has released five studio albums since 2001, four of which have gone platinum in Australia. Their new 2014 album, Flesh & Blood may be the best yet. In parts it is simply overwhelming. The album has captured that elusive thing—soul. Butler has spoken of his songs being like “wild horses” that must be caught without breaking their spirit or wildness. He and his band mates have been at pains to honor the songs as independent, belonging to no one, least of all themselves.
THE STRAY SISTERS
Sisters Donna Simpson and Vikki Thorn from Aussie award winning band THE WAIFS, are going back to their roots and touring together again. Sister connections run deep. Donna & Vikki get back down home not as "The Waifs without Josh" but as Sisters astray, rediscovering their love for singing and performing together. It is through harmonizing that Donna and Vikki forged a intuitive understanding of each other. The Waifs was their public vehicle but at home in Australia the sisters loved to sing & connect through the songs they grew up with. With The Waifs temporarily out of action and Donna & Vikki living on opposites sides of the world, both felt the desire to return to the stage, inviting audiences to share in the joy of connecting through song.
