"A Day in the Garden" Artist's Reception Saturday, July 12 from 2-5PM
Gail Alger was born in Hawaii and raised in the Samoan Islands. At age 15 she returned to Hawaii to attend La Pietra High School. After living all her life on the islands she decided it would be fun to live in a ski town and ended up in Park City, Utah. A one-season ski vacation turned into a 26-year stay. Gail graduated from Westminster College in Salt Lake City with a degree in Elementary Education, started teaching, got married and had three children. Not much time for skiing after that! During those busy years Gail experimented with arts or crafts from soft sculpture to woodworking, along with a watercolor class now and then. In 2007 Gail's husband Doug retired and they moved to Springdale, Utah near Zion National Park where they had often vacationed during the winter. Gail was very excited when she saw that a watercolor class was being offered in a town near by. She took the class and has been hooked on watercolors ever since. She has taken numerous workshops from well known artists such as, Roland Lee, Carl Purcell, Sterling Edwards, Don Andrews, and more. Now that their kids are grown, Gail and Doug spend more time in Hawaii and Gail is able to photograph and paint all the beautiful tropical flowers and foliage she grew up with.
