Well folks, I think we might be finally done with the snow and cold. Scott has beautifully planted the bed at the Visitor Center entrance with desert plants from around the world.

The Natural Area Awakes

The snow has melted off most of the natural area and the first spring flowers have started blooming. Before you head up there to take a look, take a stroll through the Rose Garden and see the amazing display of dwarf Iris.

The First Daffodil Opened!!!
Submitted by Curator on March 2, 2010 - 5:19pmOk folks the first daffodil out of approximately 150,000 daffodils officially opened today at Red Butte Garden! How exciting is that?

Along with our 150,000 daffodils throughout the garden, we also have approximately 50,000 other spring blooming flowers. Come visit often to make sure you don't miss a single one.

We have a new addition to our early spring bloomers this year at Red Butte. Located under the Russian Olive trees in the Mediterrainean area of the Floral Walk there are Hardy Cyclamens blooming their little hearts out.

Beautiful Indoor Arrangements

We begin our tour with some outstanding specimens in the Visitor Center. At the top of the stairs your eyes should immediately be drawn to our tallest plant, our Screw Pine.

We recieved this beautiful plant as part of our prehistoric display in 2006 and it has become a permanent part of our Vistor Center indoor display.

Pinus edulis is one of 20 species of pine tree that delicious pine nuts are harvested from. The seeds are very important to wildlife and are eaten by many insects, mammals and birds.
In its native plant community, it grows very slowly, and trees witha trunk diameter of 6 to 8 inches can be well over 100 years old.
