Visitor Center directions and parking

VIA CAR

From Downtown SLC

  • Drive east on 400 South. This road will curve around and become 500 South. It will curve again and become Foothill Drive.
  • Turn left on Wakara Way (the road after Mario Capecchi Drive).
  • Follow Wakara Way all the way to the top - it ends in our parking lot. We are located next to the Natural History Museum of Utah

From I-15 - Downtown SLC

  • Take the 400 South exit for Downtown SLC.
  • At the end of the exit ramp turn left so you are heading east on 400 South.
  • Keep driving straight. 400 South will curve around and become 500 South. It will curve again and become Foothill Drive.
  • Turn left on Wakara Way (the road after Mario Capecchi Drive).
  • Follow Wakara Way all the way to the top of the street - it ends in our parking lot.

From I-15 - South of Downtown SLC

  • Take the 900 South exit.
  • Drive to 800 South, turn right on 800 South (heading east).
  • Drive to Foothill drive, turn left on Foothill Drive.
  • Take the next right onto Wakara Way.
  • Follow Wakara Way all the way to the top - it ends in our parking lot. We are located next to the Natural History Museum of Utah.

From Eastbound I-215

  • Take the Foothill Drive exit.
  • Follow Foothill until you reach Wakara Way (the road after Sunnyside Drive).
  • Turn right on Wakara Way.
  • Follow Wakara Way all the way to the top of the street - it ends in our parking lot.

Taking a U of U campus shuttle from Trax Stations

The University of Utah’s “On Demand” Shuttle will take you from the Medical Trax Station to Red Butte Garden (NHMU) by request only.

  • Take Trax to the U of U Medical Center Trax Station (near University Hospital).
  • Cross the street to the bus/shuttle stop.
  • Call to request the “On Demand” shuttle.
  • Call: 801-581-4189 / After 6PM: 801-581-4189
  • Choose “Medical Trax” as the pick-up location.
  • Choose “Natural History Museum of Utah” as the Drop Off Location.

Walking from Trax
From South Campus Trax Station

  1. Get off Trax at the University South Campus Station.
  2. Start walking eastbound up South Campus Drive.
  3. Keep walking straight until you reach Fort Douglas Blvd. Turn right on Fort Douglas Blvd.
  4. Keep going until you reach Pollock Road. Turn left on Pollock Road.
  5. Walk to Connor Road. Turn right on Connor Road.
  6. Walk to Wakara Way. Turn left on Wakara Way.
  7. Walk up the hill - Wakara Way ends in our parking lot.

Walking from Trax
From Fort Douglas Trax Station

  1. Get off Trax at the Fort Douglas Station (the stop after South Campus).
  2. The Legacy Bridge will be in front of you. Take the stairs or the elevator up to the bridge. Cross the Legacy Bridge.
  3. At the end of the bridge follow the sidewalk to Fort Douglas Blvd. Turn right on Fort Douglas Blvd.
  4. Keep going until you reach Pollock Road. Turn left on Pollock Road.
  5. Walk to Connor Road. Turn right on Connor Road.
  6. Walk to Wakara Way. Turn left on Wakara Way.
  7. Walk up the hill - Wakara Way ends in our parking lot.
