The Barenaked Ladies are exploring a very creative and fertile phase of their careers. They have been reborn as a quartet, which has inspired the band to stretch themselves musically. The move from five to four could be a tough transition for a lesser group, but Barenaked Ladies are no ordinary rock band. Starting as a duo in 1988, the group soon grew to five members and took Canada by storm with their five-song indie cassette, The Yellow Tape. Over the next decade-plus, their albums Gordon, Rock Spectacle, Stunt and Maroon went multi-platinum in the U.S., and Barenaked Ladies became a top-selling, award-winning concert draw across North America and The U.K. with their frenetic blend of high-energy melodic-pop, crack musicianship and spontaneous repartee. Their new album, All in Good Time, the 11th from this Canadian institution, and their first as a new four-piece boasts, fourteen bold and adventurous new tracks, recorded in Toronto in the spring and summer of 2009.
Since the 2009 American Idol finale, which Kris Allen won, 24-year-old Allen has had multiple songs appear on the Billboard charts. “That was crazy! Four months before that we were all unknown. That first moment I knew I had five songs on the Billboard chart was very cool.” At the same time, his finale song “No Boundaries” was No. 1 on the iTunes chart. Kris found out when a friend sent him a text message. Now Kris is writing songs and preparing to record his debut album as well as touring and performing.
