The Shins
The Shins’ 2001 debut album Oh, Inverted World received near-universal critical acclaim, and enjoyed the spotlight when the tracks “New Slang” and “Caring Is Creepy” were featured prominently in the Zach Braff film Garden State. “This song will change your life,” proclaims Natalie Portman’s character, listening to “New Slang.” Their sophomore album Chutes Too Narrow was released in 2003 to gushing reviews. In 2007, the band released their third album, Wincing the Night Away, landing at #2 on the Billboard charts. Their newest album, Port Of Morrow, debuted March 2012.

The Head and the Heart
Seattle’s The Head and the Heart came together in the summer of 2009 and released their self-titled debut album in 2010. With Americana roots and strong vocal harmonics, this band finds its anchor in solid songwriting that will leave you humming along. Their songs pick at the threads of leaving home, finding home, and through the process of deconstruction, finding yourself. Even from the first months of the band’s life, their reputation as a phenomenal live band has preceded them wherever they play.

Blind Pilot
There’s no shortage of angles to Blind Pilot’s story: the tours by bicycle, the sheer volume of iTunes downloads, the dizzying ride from relative obscurity to headlining a national club tour in less than a year. But the real story of Portland, Oregon’s Blind Pilot is about the songs. Led by the acoustic guitar and gentle voice of songwriter Israel Nebeker, Blind Pilot’s heartfelt music is the sort that cultivates devotion among fans, that elicits sing-alongs at concerts, that inspires late-night mixtapes.
