Summer Kids Camps 2010

Registration will begin on February 16th.

Birds, bee balm, bugs, and bobcats… just a few of our favorite things about summer camps at Red Butte Garden! Nature inspired, our camps converge art, science, gardening, exploration, and FUN! We’ve added some exciting options to the schedule this year- weekly camps are offered for all ages*, for both half and full day camps! Full day campers can bring a sac lunch and picnic with friends and instructors each day. Registration is required. Register online or call 801.581.8454. Camps fill up quickly, so register early.

*Pre-k camps (Children entering kindergarten) remain A.M. only, and are increased to 3-hour sessions!

Weekly Camp Cost:
Half Day (including Pre-K): Members: $105/ Nonmembers: $120
Full Day: Members: $210/ Nonmembers: $235

Please note that our Summer Camp shirts are available for an additional $10. Please specify size at time of registration.

*Please register your child for camps corresponding to the grade level they will be entering in the Fall.



Refund policy:
If you need to cancel your registration, a refund, less 20% processing fee, will be given up to one week prior to the class/program start date. No refund or credits will be given for cancellations made less than one week prior to the class/program start date.

 


JUNE 14-18

Junior Horticulturists

Join us for a week of horticulture work at the Botanic Garden! We’ll work closely with lead horticulturists in the Garden, prepare and plant raised beds with veggies, and learn all about composting, soil, and vermiculture. Gloves and tools provided, but dress for gardening and outdoor fun!

JUNE 21-25

Sensational Sego Lily Artists

Using the Garden as inspiration, we’ll create works with watercolors, pastels, clay, and other Garden related media. We’ll showcase our work at the end of the week in our annual art show!

The Nature of Art Tools and Techniques
Partner Camp with University of Utah Continuing Education

Let’s discover unique tools found in nature to create paints, dyes, and sculptural pieces used to create unique works of art. We’ll study watercolor by the streamside, pen/ink drawings in the oak grove, clay sculpture near the old red rock quarry, and much more.

JUNE 28-JULY 2

Professor Munchies Bug Club and their favorite plants

Lacewings and Dill, Honey Bees and Hyssop, Butterflies and Milkweed… these are examples of beneficial insects and the plants they love. We’ll be learning all about beneficial insect life cycles, releasing live specimens, and planting their favorite plants in our own gardens!

Em’s Apothecary:Magical Plants of Red Butte

Did you know that the Declaration of Independence was written with ink made from galls? Join our Apothecary camp and learn how they did it! We’ll be creating amazing projects such as Oak ink gall, medicinal salves, and native plant tonics. Make sure and join us for this unique, magical camp for all ages!

Spend half your day in Em’s Apothecary at the Garden, and the other half at UMNH for an amazing week filled with exploration and experiments!

AUGUST 9-13

Bats, Bobcats and Other Amazing Creatures of Red Butte

There are so many spectacular animals living at the Garden, we need an entire week to showcase them all. Beginning with bats and bobcats, we’ll also be investigating owls, snakes, fox, coyote, hawks, eagles, kestrels, ermines, rabbits and much more! Don’t miss out on this action packed week of naturalist studies, art, and exploration.

AUGUST 16-20

Garden Gastronome: Plentiful Harvest and Fantastic Food

Join us for a week that will make your mouth water! We’ll be harvesting herbs and veggies from our organic gardens, preparing inspiring recipes, then enjoying delicious, fresh food with our friends! This fun filled camp includes fresh food, aprons, and recipe books for all participants.
