Horticulture Department
Part time, non-benefitted position (seasonal)
Salary: $8.50 to $9.25 an hour
The Horticulture Department at Red Butte Garden is looking for seasonal gardeners who have a passion for gardening and working outdoors. We strongly prefer people who can can commit to 25 - 40 hours a week beginning early March, understand the physical commitment required for gardening, and are able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperature extremes. Exact duties vary depending upon assigned team.
Outdoor Garden: weeding, mulching, planting, deadheading, pruning, watering, fertilization, pest control, trash removal, sweeping, event support, etc.
Natural Area: same as above, also trail maintenance and noxious weed removal, etc.
Greenhouse: indoor plant displays, outdoor seasonal displays, and plant production, including watering, seeding, transplanting, weeding, deadheading, pruning, fertilization, pest control, sweeping, event support, etc.
Irrigation/Lawns/Equipment: push mowing, weedeating, trash removal, equipment maintenance, irrigation system repairs, sweeping, event support, etc.
Preferences
A passion for gardening and working with plants, valid US drivers license, commitment to work 25-40 hrs/wk beginning early March, proven written and oral communication skills, commitment to provide excellent customer service and ability to work cooperatively with others, understand the physical commitment required for gardening and working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and temperature extremes, and be at least 18 years of age (University requirement for operating motorized equipment).
Previous related education and/or experience is preferred, but not required.

Computer Assistant
Administration Department
Part time, non-benefitted position
Salary: $12.00 to $15.00 an hour
Schedule: 20 to 29 hours a week, must include Saturday or Sunday.
Job Summary
Red Butte Garden is looking for an energetic individual to assist the Director of Information Technology with providing support to Garden staff with computer systems.
Responsibilities
Provides computer support by troubleshooting and correcting problems on workstations. Installs and upgrades computer hardware and software applications. Designs and maintains web sites. Creates and maintains databases, network accounts and programs for specific department needs. Backs up department computer systems on scheduled intervals. Maintains inventory of hardware and ensures appropriate licensures. Serves as a help desk resource for assigned areas. Maintains user accounts and necessary login and password changes. Runs departmental reports and unique programs. May supervise, train and assign work to other staff members.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree in a computer related field and 0 – 2 years of experience or equivalency recommended. Demonstrated computer skills, human relations and effective communication skills are required. Computer Science major preferred.

Maintenance & Set-Up Worker
Concert Crew
Seasonal, non-benefitted position
Salary: $8.90 to $13.00 an hour
Schedule: 20 to 40 hours a week; concert shows - evenings and weekends
Job Summary
Provide support for the Red Butte Garden summer concert series, including setups, takedowns, trash removal, working with vendors, assisting security, etc while protecting the venue site. May also perform setups/takedowns for scheduled outdoor private events. The position does not have a regular work shift; the exact schedule varies weekly depending on scheduled private events and booked concerts and agreed upon with the incumbent’s direct supervisor.
Morning, evening and weekend shifts required. Each of the 28 concerts require a 14 – 16 hour day; typically scheduled from May through mid-September.
This position requires attendance in order to perform job duties.
Responsibilities
Assist in providing setup and concert support duties and timely completion of tasks by: providing support during each of the concerts. Duties include but are not limited to: setups, takedowns, directing vendors, trash removal, assisting security, responding to emergencies and all miscellaneous needs to assuring a successful concert program.
Providing setups and takedowns for outdoor private events, as indicated on the setup request and preferably one hour before the setup time requested.
Assists in assuring duties are performed in a manner that preserves the high quality condition of the Garden, helps solve problems that arise, and handles public relations issues in a polite and professional manner.
Qualifications
Six months experience required, one year experience preferred. The ability to perform heavy lifting and stooping; the ability to use a variety of equipment; a commitment to providing excellent customer service; and a valid driver’s license also required. Experience may be in custodial or grounds maintenance depending upon area of assignment.

Maintenance Specialist
Visitor Services Department
Part time, non-benefitted position
Salary: $12.00 to $14.00 an hour
Schedule: 16 to 20 hours a week, varied schedule - weekdays only
Job Summary
Advanced level trades skills to perform maintenance and repair work of facilities equipment, machinery, appliances, utilities, etc. in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
Responsibilities
Performs electrical work to repair or replace electrical motors, electrical equipment, control devices, etc. Performs carpentry work in constructing repairing or installing counter tops, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building frames and trim. Performs painting work by preparing the walls, doors, and exposed surfaces for painting and by painting those areas using any combination of brushes, rollers or spray guns. May be required to erect scaffolding in order to paint in high places. Performs preventive maintenance on machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pumps, pneumatic tools, and conveyor systems in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
Qualifications
Four years relevant work experience in the applicable trades areas with one of those years in a supervisory capacity; demonstrated knowledge of national, state and local building codes and standards; ability to read wiring diagrams, blueprints, and be able to make mechanical sketches and drawings; and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required. Requires lifting and transporting heavy objects. A valid Utah Driver’s license may be required. This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.
